Our helmet repeal efforts for 2009

We made a lot of progress in the past 4 years (i.e. in the past two legislative sessions). Both times our bill passed out of both the House and the Senate, only to be vetoed by the Governor. A lot of our members went through a lot of work to get this far; even though we did not reach our end goal, our progress helped build momentum.

We are not going to stop now, even though we know our Governor has not changed her mind. To this end we’ve introduced a new bill for the new legislative session:

The bill is HB4028 Helmet bill and was introduced by Rep. LeBlanc and referred to the Committee on regulatory reform on January 22, 2009.  The bill states:

“A person operating or riding a motorcycle may, but is not required to, wear a crash helmet on his or her head”.

The bill has no attachments at this time, meaning no PIP or other provisions.

We will keep you up to date on the status.
